Adam Sandler’s production company,
Happy Madison
Productions/MTV Films,
has met with success yet again! Paramount
Pictures released the film in a special screening at the Mann
Theatre, and POWER was there to cover it. In this action
comedy, Sandler does a witty remake of the 1974 movie, The
Longest Yard, adhering closely to Sheldon Turner’s original
script, while still yielding to his own comedic style, which has
entertained audiences for years with hits such as Billy
Madison, Big
Daddy, and Happy
Gilmore. Unlike Sandler’s last hit, Spanglish,
The Longest Yard is much more about laughs than any tears,
sighs, or drama.
In the film, Sandler stars as a former pro football MVP named Paul “Wrecking” Crewe, who was kicked out of the NFL for his role in a point-shaving scandal. When he violates his five-year probation for taking his rich girlfriend Courtney Cox’s Bentley out for a drunken joyride, he ends up behind bars in a Texas prison.
Soon enough, with the assistance of caretaker Chris Rock and coaching from
Burt Reynolds (star of the original film), Sandler has devised
a new football team, the “Mean Machine,” which is ready to challenge
the prison guards. Hip-hop artist Nelly even makes a cameo as
the team’s star running back. Sandler’s Spanglish
co-star, Cloris Leachman, also provides much entertainment in
her role as the warden’s oversexed secretary.
The movie, which is Peter Segal’s third collaboration with Adam Sandler, will surely take the box office by storm!
