In Defense of Animals' Guardian Award

In Defense of Animals announced its Guardian Award recipients. IDA, an international animal protection organization dedicated to ending the exploitation and abuse of animals, announced its honorees at Paramount Studios in a black-tie event that attracted many musicians, world-class athletes, and celebrities. As the drinks were flowing and the vegan meals were served, IDA gave its Lifetime Achievement Award to Pat Derby of the Performing Animal Welfare Society and Distinguished Guardian Awards to actress/animal advocate Keely Shaye Smith, comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, director of the Detroit Zoo Ron Kagan, famed elephant researcher and conservationist Cynthia Moss, filmmakers James LaVeck and Jenny Stein, tri-athlete Eric Harr and animal advocate Marc Bluestone. Also honored was Jeff Hyland of Hilton-Highland Real Estate. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger received special recognition for signing legislation that banned the cruel practice of force-feeding ducks to make foie gras and for sigining the law to ban the declawing of exotic cats. A Special Youth Guardian Award was given to Washo Dakota Shadowhark. The Guardian Angels, citizen activists who spearheaded the passage of Guardianship language in animal related ordinances, also attended the event and received thanks. Milan B. Williams, former Commodore, was on hand to promote Brain Garden, a company which provides a wide variety of health-conscious whole foods, toxin-free personal care products and a complete line of therapeutic essential oils. Rick and Kathy Hilton, Jean Paul DeJoria, and Wendie Malik of Just Shoot Me were amongst the many celebrities who offered their interest and support in the occasion.
